Two weeks left to comment on North Falls introductory consultation

  • Two weeks to go for North Essex communities wanting to provide feedback regarding the proposed wind farm
  • Online consultation on early plans for the project runs until Friday 10 December 2021 via the consultation portal

The first consultation for the proposed southern North Sea offshore wind farm, North Falls, has two weeks left to run before it closes on Friday 10 December.

The team from North Falls Offshore Wind Farm encourages people from North Essex and surrounding areas to provide feedback on early proposals for the project that is being developed across a total area of 150km² located more than 20km off the UK coast.

The consultation opened in October and has been running for five weeks, with more than 50 responses received to date offering opinions and insights into the consultation itself, offshore wind technology and on specifics of the project including possible landfall locations between Clacton and Frinton-by-the-Sea, construction methods and how the local environment will be taken into account.

Martin Whyte, Project Manager at North Falls, said: ”Although the location of the onshore grid connection is not yet known, it is likely to be in North Essex and that is why we are focusing this first consultation in that area, encouraging nearby communities to give us the benefit of their local knowledge upfront.

“While there will be further opportunities for local people to offer their views in future detailed consultations and as part of the formal consenting process, by seeking early inputs we can identify potential concerns or issues at an immature stage of development.”

The proposed project is an extension to the existing Greater Gabbard 504MW offshore wind farm and will generate much needed green electricity for the UK, while also contributing towards the economy by providing benefits such as skilled new jobs and supply chain opportunities for local businesses.

Feedback is invited, either through the dedicated consultation website  or via freephone, email or freepost by Friday 10 December.

North Falls Offshore Wind Farm is being developed by a 50/50 joint venture company owned equally by SSE Renewables and RWE Renewables.
